I have lived in Smithfield and Johnston County, North Carolina for most of my life and raised my family here. I know the community because I have been active in civic affairs for a long time. I am a past president of the Greater Smithfield-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce, presently chair of the Chamber's 40th Anniversary Celebration, a former chairman of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation, past president of Habitat for Humanity of Johnston County, a founder of the Johnston County YMCA, immediate past president of the Johnston County Arts Council, and former trustee and chair of the Memorials Committee of Centenary United Methodist Church. I served eight years on the Smithfield Town Council.
